I felt that researching all genres was key before settling on one to use for my teaser trailer. Exploring each genre will give me a better insight into what i will feel most comfortable in producing for my teaser trailer, so that i am able to produce the best quality trailer possible.
Action - This is when a character is thrown into a fast paced and highly energetic situation, in which he/she has to overcome a series of challenges. They usually include 'Good guys' who have to defeat the 'Bad guys'. Action movies include stunts, gun fights and chases.
Transporter 3
Adventure - Stories that include travels and explorations of many locations around the world. They can be similar to action movies as going on a quest can include danger such as 'Bad guys'. This genre includes treasure hunts or expeditions for lost civilisations.
Pirates Of The Caribbean
Comedy - These movies are designed to entertain the audience in the form of provoking laughter out of them. This is produced by an exaggerated situation usually accompanied by language of humour. Their are various types of comedies such as spoofs, parodies, black comedy and romantic comedies.
The Hangover
Crime - This genre usually shows criminals committing their offences and shows their motives. They usually include crimes such as robberies and murders.
American Gangster
Fantasy - These movies include supernatural phenomenons or magical events. They also include locations that cannot exist in the real world.
Pans Labyrinth
Romance - There is a plot in which the protagonists
within the movie are involved in a love relationship but their are challenges and obstacles facing them.
The Notebook
Horror - This genre of movie purposely attempts to elicit fear and terror with the audience. They usually use monsters and the supernatural to extract anxiety out of the audience.
The Exorcist
Thriller - The genre uses tension, suspicion and exhilaration to produce awe in the audience. The conventions of a thriller include mind games, stalking and conspiracy theories.
Psycho
After reviewing all genres, i have decided that the best genre suited for me would be an action-crime genre, which will enable me to demonstrate my technical and imaginative skills.
The crime committed by the 'bad guys' affects the 'good guys' in a way that enforces them to act. This is where action comes into the trailer as the 'good guys' have to defeat the 'bad guys' in order to restore the equilibrium.
